The Air I Breathe

By Tonisha Johnson

The Air I Breathe follows the lives of four people. Beginning with Happiness (Forest Whitaker); the life of a boring stock broker who seems to have a bit of cash saved but no real life is not enough. the pursuit of happiness is better than watching life go by. As Happiness is eager to make a change he confides in Pleasure (Brendan Fraser) who can see bits and pieces of the future. While Happiness finds a way to share his thoughts, Pleasure is certain that he won't make any changes and remain in his safe and secure world. Pleasure finds himself facing Sorrow (Sarah Michelle Gellar); a superstar forced to pay the debt of her gambling boss; Sorrow finds herself in an unfamiliar and dangerous situation. Wanting more than what is in front of her, Sorrow finds comfort in Pleasure but soon is realized by the enemy and Pleasure is lost to death. As Sorrow tries to deal with the horrible situation she finds herself in, Love (Kevin Bacon) has no other resort but the final one in order to be successful in its goal. And Sorrow thus satisfies love.

If only the concept of Crash would just die already. The Air I Breathe follows the lives of 4 people who represent important aspects of life; happiness, sorros, love and pleasure as they intertwine with one another along their journey of discovering self and what is important. Creatively, the stories are able to stand on their own without having to depend on the other to get the story across which is one part of Crash that doens't exist here... in a way.
