The story of Frank Lucas' heroine reign
in Harlem continues on DVD with the
release of American Gangster. Graciously
not only has the DVD included the
original theatrical film but an
additional Extended Version with over 18
minutes plus an alternate ending. Either
way, Lucas still does the time for the
crime but you find out why they are both
life long pals.
By far there were many drug dealers in
Harlem but not at the level of Frank
Lucas and definitely not as much nerve.
As Frank made his way through the
jungles of Vietnam to get his product
packed and securely shipped thanks to
the paid courtesy of US soldiers;
Americans were exposed to heroine at its
purest.
As the DVD depicts an even more chilling
story with behind-the-scenes accounts
from the real Richie Roberts and Frank
Lucas telling what it was like to make a
million dollars a day to bringing down
one of American history's most notorious
drug lords.
The 2 disc DVD offers some great
features:
Disc 1: Unrated
Extended Version
Original Theatrical Version;
including feature commentary w/Director
Ridley Scott and Writer Steven Zaillian
Disc 2: Deleted
Scenes including an
Alternate Opening
Fallen Empire:
Making American Gangster - a feature
length documentary that provides an in
depth look at the film's production,
from the real life characters behind the
story in exotic locations, costumes,
setting up the infamous Ali vs. Frazier
fight and more!
Case Files - Three in
depth, behind the scenes segments reveal
how the art of collaboration brings the
films script to life. How actual police
drug testing techniques add "streetwise"
on screen realism and what it takes to
stage the film's explosive climax.
