Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show

By Tonisha Johnson

It seems as if everything since the Stone Age is headed towards DVD these days. Especially the Super Friends who’s all over comebacks with DVD releases this year. And now along with Hanna Barbera and Warner Home Video the Legendary Super Powers Show gets their debut.

Yes. The 2 Disc Collector set is filled with Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman & Robin; along with characters unseen in years like Aqua Man, Green Lantern, Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, The Wonder Twins and more!

Remember when Saturday Mornings was the only time you could catch a cartoon? Of course that was way before cable television with round the clock animation. Watching the old show was a charm but even more intriguing were the difference in effects and graphics that have come so far in our life time.

The cheesy visual and sound effects marveled kids that are now older fans of Super Hero’s come and gone. And explanation as to why mega films like Superman, Batman trilogies and X-Men are geared towards adult audiences as opposed to children.

But if you feel you’d like your child to get the best of both worlds have them sit and watch the classics on DVD. It’s a great time to put all the pieces of the super hero world puzzle together.

The 16 episode 10 minute shorts classics are closed captioned. And include the following fantastic features:

·         Social Impact Featurette – Examine the roots of the characters, their ethnic backgrounds and why this series was groundbreaking and important for both animation and comic books at the time.

·         Toy Craze Featurette – The toy craze which inspired a number of cartoons will be examined with emphasis on how this impacted Super Friends and the show’s marketing plans.
