Although
it’s the hottest day of the year
everyone isn’t avoiding the sun soaked
city as many flock to the theatre for
the hottest premiere. Unfortunately with
only a moment’s notice, the only
available movie house isn’t equipped to
handle such a large crowd as a
predominant amount of staff calls out
sick or is headed to jail leaving only
three people to handle hundreds when the
biggest film of the year is being
released at their theatre.
The
three employees not only have to deal
with the surging crowd but they’ve got
their own problems to deal with that
somehow find themselves intertwined
during the long hours of the day.
The
Manager (Michael McKiddy) knows just
what to expect ahead of time as he
prepares his Pepto Bismol filled bottle
for heavy consumption throughout the
day. Julian Tate (Sean Farley) isn’t
happy that the air conditioner is out,
especially since he decided to wear his
hot black suit to work. Poor Julian! He
must face the weary crowd while
convincing them they only need a large
popcorn instead of a small so as to
prevent movie goers from returning back
to the concession stand while the movie
is playing. And finally, there is
negative attitude driven Yvonne Dumas
(Angela Roberts). She’s so far gone that
evil couldn’t find her even if it had
her direct address. Yvonne can’t wait
until 7pm when her shift is over. Her
reminders make everyone aware of her
grief during a not-so-great time of
events.
Surviving the Rush, obviously an
independent film originally released in
2005 now in 2007 has made it to an even
dustier shelf in 2007 isn’t half bad. As
a matter of fact it’s quite funny. The
attempts at real performances can be
deemed as acting.
The lost
cost shots attempted by
actor/director/writer Sean Farley really
adds to the films concept. It almost
poses as a reality show; which would be
rightfully so as working behind a
concession stand isn’t easy as they all
soon find out.
Funny.
Humorous. Comedy driven… Surviving the
Rush definitely creates an urge to buy
popcorn and respect the employees.
