Before
weaves… there was Robin Harris.
Robin
Harris’ (1953-1990) comedy didn’t take you back.
That was just who he was. His comedic
style reminded you of the old guys on
the corner, your dad’s best friends
coming over on pay day, mom’s cooking
and marriages that hung in there. That’s
what Robin Harris reminds you of; the
good old days.
The last
of the originators; Robin was classic
and modern all at the same time. You
respected his character and he’d
disrespect yours; but all in fun. In any
lifetime and walk of life, Harris fits
like a glove.
In We
Don’t Die We Multiply: a signature
saying from the funny lines regarding
Bebe’ kids, friends of Robin walk down
memory lane. Taking the viewer to his
old stomping grounds in the ghettos of
Chi-town; the DVD takes a look at rare
footage of Harris’ performances.
The feel
is the best thing about this DVD. When
you hear the stories and watch the
people tell them it brings back a sense
of family and struggle. A struggle that
was ok because it was love behind it.
Robin started comedy after losing his
job; but his wife didn’t make a fuss;
she just said ‘you gotta do what you
gotta do’. And he did.
With
comedy Robin made ends meet and opened
doors for newcomers to follow in his
traits. Good material is hard to find in
fabricated places. But not with Harris.
He was original and his unrehearsed
lines prove that he worked
instantaneously while in the midst of it
all. And although you could see him
sweat… it was from the hot lights above
because Robin is one of the few
comedians that can hang tight under
pressure. He’ll make you laugh about you
not laughing.
That is
the great thing about Robin Harris.
Robin
Harris was the last professor; a class
that you can’t get back. If you missed
it… you missed it. – Joe Torry
