From her early years in The Cosby Show
throughout her That's So Raven years,
Raven raised eyebrows and cheek to cheek
smile has been on the TV and now the
silver screen with College Road Trip.
Raven plays college bound Melanie Porter
whose eyes are set on attending
Georgetown University. However, dad
(Martin Lawrence) has a different plan.
In an effort between the two to get each
other to see their point of view,
daughter and dad find themselves always
loving each other but really liking each
other as well.
On the outside looking in, most people
think Hollywood steals the lives of the
young. Even some actors and actresses
would agree. But not Raven who really
loves her work. Executive Producing the
project, Raven really has a 'hands-on'
commitment to the film.
This film is wild with antics
between you and Martin. What had to be
your best scene?
Raven: I got to wrestle
Martin down to the ground. Physical
comedy is one of my favorite things to
do. The first time I threw him down I
told him I would get a little rough. I
put my knee in his back... he was like,
Ok, I'm ready.
Your a successful child star. In
this film your working opposite Donny
Osmond who has walked the walk. What was
it like working with him?
Raven: Working with
Donny Osmond was a dream. I adore him. I
think he is down to earth. He's been in
the business as long as he has but is
real. Martin Lawrence is the same way.
He's professional and funny. Yes.
Growing up in the industry, we have a
lot of things in common. He knows the
struggle that I go through and he
overcame all of them and is still
working till this day. He's not someone
that is bombarded. He still lives a
life.
Your not the ordinary Hollywood
kid as you've taken on some roles that
aren't traditional for young actors.
Raven: Yes. Executive
Producer. I walked into the project. I
didn't want to shadow anybody. I
Executive Produced 'That's So Raven',
'Cheetah Girls.' I sat back and
chatted to see how big screen movies
were produced and run. I enjoyed myself
and I learned a lot.
What makes you want to elevate
in your career?
Raven: I think that
there are so many talented people to be
seen. I want to be able to create that
on the talent tip. I want to be able to
be a part of something from the ground
up. I love the process in creating a
movie. I might not have said that line
but I wrote it. I don't want to overstay
my time. I've been in it since I was 2.
As I'm growing up I have some ideas.
Have you mapped out a long range
plan for yourself from girl to woman?
Raven: Of course. I
think any business that you go to you
should right down a plan in Hollywood or
America. I definitely take steps... I
show people that I am growing. Hopefully
they see that.
What are your goals Raven?
Raven: More African
American roles and showing women that
look like me.
