FAILURE TO LAUNCH |
| Starring:
Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew
McConaughey, Kathy Bates, Terry
Bradshaw |
| |
35 year
veteran actress; that could be
said but that sounds so old when
Sarah Jessica is just fabulously
fresh and energetic; and
consistently appeals to all
audience ages. A feat that only
one other actress can achieve;
Heather Locklear.
Ms. Parker’s style continues to
be sexy and graceful and
stylish. This would be why she
continues to get the fashion
questions thrown her way; which
is great to notice her lasting
beauty but doesn’t begin to
approach her longevity as an
actress.What’s incredible about
an acting career is to be able
to achieve it on different
levels; obviously established by
Parker; from television to film,
her classic image wins the
hearts of many. In Failure to
Launch, Parker continues her
winning style as Paula, the
‘paid’ girlfriend opposite Tripp
(McConaughey) who can’t decide
whether to fix or fall in love
with him. |

In the midst of
your ‘relationship’ with Tripp, he
mentioned you had nice shoes.
Sarah Jessica Parker: He did.
That wasn’t in the script. Seriously
that was Matthew.
Did Sex in the
City change your lifestyle habits?
Sarah Jessica Parker: Never
has. Never did. Never went out. Never
been a club person. Never been a
drinker. Never been a bar goer. I got to
pretend to be this person with a really
colorful single life and really go home
to my quiet, not single life.
When the show
ended; what steps did you take to make
sure your roles changed? ‘Family Stone’
was the total opposite.
Sarah Jessica Parker: It’s
just how I made choices. If I wanted to
continue doing that particular breed of
romantic comedy…but I didn’t. And I
recognized that it was time to end the
show, as hard as it was. And I also
recognized that it was important to do
what I used to do, which was really
different parts all the time. It hasn’t
been difficult because I have good
counsel and I have good judgment. So
it’s been relatively easy.
Is Paula like
Carrie?
Sarah Jessica Parker: No.
Carrie was about herself. Where as Paula
has cleverly reflected all of that. She
is one of those people who is filled
with wisdom and advice.
Did you ever
date a guy who lived at home?
Sarah Jessica Parker: Well I
was quite young, so I hope I didn’t date
a 35 year old that lived at home. Wow,
is that inappropriate? What’s bad now?
How old is too old? I never dated
anybody that was that much older than
me. I’ve always dated in my peer group.
I didn’t date that much either so I
don’t have much to draw on.
Part of Paula’
strategy is to pretend to be interested
in what the guy is into. What strategy
do you use to pretend to be interested
in Matthew?
Sarah Jessica Parker:
Nothing. I mean I don’t need to. If
where together 14 years you can’t
pretend to be interested in anything.
There are things that he is into that
I’m not. I don’t read the Circuit
section of The Times every week where he
reads it. But sometimes I am sometimes
I’m not. But to pretend to be
interested…that’s an insult to him. It
seems fraudulent.
What’s a
typical day like for your husband, your
child and you?
Sarah Jessica Parker: You
mean, when where not working?
Yes.
Sarah Jessica Parker:
Probably the same as everyone at this
table. You get up. Beg him to put his
school coat on. Get him out the door.
Hope you fed him something slightly
nutritious and send him to school.
Are you a PTA
mom?
Sarah Jessica Parker: We
don’t have stuff like that in his
school. I’ve gone to numerous parent
meetings and signed up for special
snacks. I’m as much of a parent as I
know how to be. As I want to be. I’ve
done pretty much all the things as all
the other parents have done as far as I
can tell. Just make calls, have
meetings, get him home, do laundry, put
him to bed. Feed him lunch and take care
of business.
Any special bed time stories?
Sarah Jessica Parker: We read him
stories every night. And he goes through
stages where h wants a different story
every night or the same story over and
over again. Do you have children?
Yes. I have
three.
Sarah Jessica Parker: You
have three? Oh My God. What are their
ages?
14. 10. And 4
tomorrow.
Sarah Jessica Parker: Oh
really. Oh my God. Three; holly molly.
Well, you know how it goes. He just…I
cannot believe how you challenge me. I
talked to someone whose specialty is
early childhood, which by the way is my
mother; she said you really do actually
want a challenging child. You’d much
prefer to have a child that is curious
and has a point of view than a doormat.
How do you hold
all that together in entertainment?
Sarah Jessica Parker: The
same way you do. You’ve got three, I’ve
got one. You’d know just as well, if not
more, we do what every working mother,
every working couple does. You just make
your child your priority and you just
hope you can keep…somehow hope you keep
it manageable and not let people down.
We both still want to be working actors.
And we just make our child our priority
and we make everything else work or it
doesn’t.
What’s sexy
about your husband?
Sarah Jessica Parker: His
brain.
What’s the
transition like from a really strong
lead to a limited time working situation
with this film?
Sarah Jessica Parker: I’m
loving it. I mean, its terrifying every
single time. It’s much more comfortable
to walk onto a set and know an
environment that you’re really familiar
with. And places where you know your
really apart of the conversation. It’s
thrilling, simultaneously to be
terrified. To be challenged. To have the
standards around you very high;
constantly working with like really
first rate actors who spent the last 7
years of their life making movies. It’s
wonderful to be around it and to have
these kinds of choices.
