FOUR BROTHERS

SOFIA VERGARA

Gorgeous. You can’t peg her as a crossover actress. She has earned her way onto the American side of films. And rightfully so as this Latina is a superstar on the Univision network show “Fuera de Serie” and is now exploding on to the silver screen as Sofi, playing opposite love interest to Angel Mercer (Tyrese Gibson). Sofi shakes up the household giving an alternative story to the furious Four Brothers.

Where you afraid that you were creating some crazy Latina?

SV:
First of all, I’m Latina. And I didn’t think, in anyway, that that was offensive. I thought that it was a fun way to break all the strong action, drama and violence and heaviness of the guys with the funny character that would be lightness or balance to the movie. I think that she was crazy but crazy for a reason. I think that she was afraid that she was going to lose her man. And she had to be able to be loud and strong to be able to be heard in this house because to measure up to all those guys and be able to be even noticed.

Comedy is so much about the timing. So, when you had to go into the Police Station to warn them about your boyfriend…how did you work yourself up for something like that?

SV:
Well, you should think about what is happening and how you would react to it. I would come out of me funny I guess because the way I talk or the acting

Did you enjoy playing opposite Tyrese?

SV:
Yeah. It was great. And it became very difficult to do the love scenes because we became very close friends.

Terrible to do those love scenes huh?

SV:
Yeah it was horrible. Lol.

Do you think she (sofi) was sex crazed?

SV:
No. I think she was just…she was happy. She was in love. She hadn’t seen her guy in many many years. He was the love of her life.

How’d you get started in this business?

SV:
I worked for Univision; Hispanic television for many years. The producer for a Disney movie called Big Trouble called me and wanted me for a small role in that movie. He tracked me down, offered me a job. And of course I’m like yeah.

So, you can’t walk the streets of Miami because your such a huge star?

SV:
Well, were the latin market is more prodominent, its like that. Because TV makes you bigger. Like a household name.

What was the funniest time you were recognized? Were it was really inconvinent?

SV:
I don’t know. I think its always inconvenient.

Do you dress up all the time?

SV:
You try not to be crazy but it’s impossible to be perfect all the time. I have a kid. So I drive him to school in my pajamas. You can’t think about it too much because it’s like you won’t have a life. It would be like being in a movie the whole day long.

How old is your kid?

SV:
He’s 14.

Does he want to do acting?

SV:
No. He wants to be a writer and a director.

How was moving to L.A. for you?

SV:
It’s a little more relaxing than Miami. But there are lot of Mexicans in L.A. too so…I get the best service like valets. I don’t do lines in the bank. In the kitchen, they always send me stuff in restaurants. I used to go to this club in L.A were all of young Hollywood goes. And nobody knew me but I had the best service all the time.

What does your family do? Are they in acting?

SV:
My mothers always been like a homemaker. I have a big family. A lot of siblings. Like five. I was the second one, but my oldest brother was shot and killed in Columbia so now I am the oldest. I still have another brother and two more sisters. But like in latin America, we grew up with all the cousins and uncles. It was like one big crazy family.

Did your family think it was weird for you to go into acting?

SV:
Well no. I didn’t finish dentist school because I started working. So, nobody thought I was going to be in the entertainment business. And so opportunities came. So, you have to decide, like when you wake up, do you go and make money or do you go to class? It’s not the right thing to do but that’s what you usually end up doing.

What’s the worst part about acting?

SV:
The waiting in the trailer. It’s horrible. But I don’t try to take it that seriously. I’m just taking small roles. Things that I know that I can do. Nothing very hard or dramatic because I don’t want to…i’m learning.

What can we expect next from you?

SV:
I’m in a movie opposite Ray Romano. I play his love interest.

How does Ray Romano hook up with you?

SV:
lol. It’s a very interesting story.

Is the day of the Latina actress coming?

SV:
Well, I hope so. That’s why I can’t start anymore movies because I’m doing a television show called Hot Properties. In September.
