            Dare to live your dreams.

The underlying theme of this fantastic film, The Astronaut Farmer starring Billy Bob Thornton who plays key character Charles Farmer; decides that his dreams of becoming an astronaut will soon be reality. With hard work, determination and a bit of engineering ingenuity, ‘Dreamer’ comes to life in a large barn out back of their 352 acre farmland.

With years of time and energy, Farmer, bolt by bolt, erects the large craft complete with all the ‘thingamajigs’ of a real shuttle and launch pad.

But every dream has a sacrifice such as Farmer whose home stability isn’t exactly what the family thinks it is and learns the cost of a dream.

With three children and wife Audie played by actress Virginia Madsen, Farmer must appear a hero in their lives although things seem to be falling apart.

The Astronaut Farmer is a heartfelt story. It’s ‘atmosphere’ is middle 50s and 60s but set in today’s reality. You’d never know unless the Cadillac Escalades pulled up filled with city sleek FBI agents that Farmer was even in the millennium.

The film doesn’t create fantasy; the events can possibly be true in today’s date and time. The film however creates an idealistic view of following your dreams. As the story puts it without giving away too much, Farmer builds his craft from the aircraft grave yard located near Story, Texas as the film is set.

If you can build a car which is a moving vehicle from junk pieces, you can do so with an aircraft if the pieces were readily available.

Billy Bob Thornton best known for playing incredible characters in films like ‘Monsters’ Ball’ has yet again entranced the audience with his wonderful portrayal of man wanting to see the world from above ground at insurmountable heights.

Wife Audie loves her husband incredibly as she feels her dream. But what is great is that the audience isn’t supped up into a 50s or 60s like story line with such drama as the wife being totally enveloped in her husband’s ideas. Virginia Madsen plays the southern housewife to perfection with great parenting, inclusion of family and patience. A character that is very rarely portrayed into today’s society of working independent mothers pursuing their own dreams while trying to make dinner for a family of five.

The Astronaut Farmer is a must see family film.
