Was having a famous mom a convincing factor in becoming a gospel singer?

Kierra Sheard:
From seeing the powerful impact that it’s had on young people and older people; and how the people have come up to me saying your music has really ministered me. It has gotten me through this trouble and it really has carried me through. I thought that that was a cool thing to see how God can use one individual to bless another individual. And I thought to myself that maybe if I had that impact on young people then maybe the young people will be pulled into this ministry where there will be less violence and we won’t have so many mind battles. And they will know that God is the key and the only way to get through so many hard times in life. I just wanted to say and be that individual that could be a blessing to someone else. And I knew I had a gift from God. And I didn’t want to use it to do the opposite of his will. I wanted to whatever God called me to do. So it was my calling and I enjoy singing music.

Do you feel pressure from the legacy of your mother Karen Clark Sheard and the Clark Sisters?

Kierra Sheard:
At times I do. I do feel pressured at times because and I say it all the time…my mom is a crazy singing woman. She can hit these high notes and I’m still in aw when I see her perform. It’s really like something new to me. And I’m really not up on her level yet. So she’s mommy and she’s a beautiful woman and I can feel pressure because I’m young and still growing. I do admit that I’m still growing. I can feel a lot of pressure cause a lot of people expect me to do what she can do. But at times there are tremendous blessings in my life because I don’t necessary have to learn the hard way. I can learn the easy way by my mother’s teachings. But at times I can feel pressure.

Is there ever a chance for you to cross over to R&B music?

Kierra Sheard:
Not for me. I like R&B music. I just love all types of music. But I just look at it as because God gave me this gift why not use this gift that he has given me to do his work. So that’s how I look at it. And just to see how God has saved me from sin and he gave me his life, why not do what God wants me to do. That’s how I look at it. I just want to be pleasing in Gods sight. And again, you know, ministry is a great thing. And just to see how music and its message. A gospel message in certain music, it can help bring a message to certain people and help them get through life. And that’s how I look at it. R&B musical thing, I have thought about it, but gospel music, I think that’s it. I just want to do what God wants me to do. And do whatever Gods will is.

What advice and inspiration can you give to young people looking to come into the music industry?

Kierra Sheard:
Well, I would say, you have to know that if you are chosen, then everybody will know you are chosen and you have Gods anointing upon your life, you have to know that the enemy is out to attack you. So you have to be ready for what the enemy is going to try to do because we’re not saved. He can really try to get you and almost have you in the palm of his hand. You’ll be ready to give up. So you have to be strong and you have to keep faith. And of course it’s very important that you be aware of your surroundings. I had to learn the hard way. You may think some people are your friends and you may wonder why just some people are leaving out of your life, you have to know that where God is taking you or if you want to do Gods will you have to know that you can’t take everybody with you. So, you might as well just get ready. That’s my advice. Get ready. There will be open doors. God will bless you all the time. But you might as well get ready for the struggles and the hard times. But the good out weighs the bad.
