BET GOSPELFEST
Tye Tribett

It has been said that the joining of Gospel and Hip Hop is a definite no no. But it has been proven by young people to be a great choice in inspiring them and a great idea in getting them to know God and religion. Tye Tribett brings a laid back feel to gospel music that all generations can enjoy.

What can we expect from you and GA?

Tye Tribett:
Expect a lot of energy. A lot of anointing. A lot of celebration. Always expect the unexpected.

If you had the opportunity who would you want to work with in Hip Hop?

Tye Tribett:
I would love to work with Andre 3000 from Outkast. He’s not boxed in to the regular sounds. He does whatever comes to mind and it’s most successful. I just appreciate his creativity and his willingness to be different and daring. Cause I’m the same way in gospel. So I can’t wait to hook up with him. Tell him about Jesus Christ. That way we can do something with Jesus together.

How did singing gospel music come about?

Tye Tribett:
I’ve been singing in church all my life.

What was most exciting to you about singing at the BET Gospel Celebration?

Tye Tribett:
The sound check. Because we got to listen to other artists.

So tomorrow night, you’ll be watching the show for the first time yourself?

Tye Tribett:
Yes! I’m gonna be tuned in with my popcorn like everybody else.

What are you most proud of in yourself and gospel music?

Tye Tribett:
I am proud of the expansion of gospel but I don’t want it to change. I don’t want Shirley Caesar to start singing hip hop. And I don’t want The Hawkins to sound like Tye Tribett. But I’m just glad that their opening their arms and accepting different styles of gospel music. I am happy that it’s growing but we still have the foundation.

Where is God taking gospel?

Tye Tribett:
I don’t think what God wants us to do have been seen yet.

What do you feel God is trying to tell his people?

Tye Tribett:
I would say this is almost a wrap. I believe Jesus is really coming back. I believe times are getting worst and worst and worst. I believe that we are getting little warnings that God is getting fed up. So on my next album I would like to be the Noah saying listen ya’ll come on get with God because it’s about to rain. At the end of all your ice and your cars, there’s Heaven or Hell. I would encourage people to live life towards heaven.
